IS 115 Introduction to Programming

Course Description: This course introduces the student to problem-solving and algorithm development using a modern programming language. Students should have basic computer skills.

Professor: Dr. Kathleen Pulling

Would I take this course again or recommend it: I wouldn’t take this course again. I don’t think I would recommend it either. I believe CSN should do what UNLV does. UNLV doesn’t have prerequisites for their introductory programming course; the student would just sign up for CS 135 (C++), which is also offered at CSN.

What would I have done differently: I did not attempt to have this course waive or attempt to receive permission from the instructor to take the course without fulfilling the prerequisites, I should have. I believe it is probable that I could have avoided taking this course.

Is it worth the $285 tuition, $19.50 technology fee, $24 student union fee, $120 Prelude to Programming (textbook) –- for a grand total of $448.50: Nope. I just want to note I brought the textbook, however it can be rented for around $30. For some reason I’m aversive to renting.

Certification: There is no certification for this course.

Transfer to UNLV: (Don’t know. I’ll find out later.)
